Anodizing…What is it? The anodizing process places the aluminum in a chemical bath. An electric current is passed through the bath, causing the surface of the aluminum to oxidize and form a stronger coating than the original surface of the aluminum. The resulting oxide coating provides outstanding surface properties including excellent resistance to abrasion, erosion, and ultraviolet light degradation. Additional processing can add color to anodized aluminum ranging from bronze-tones to black to copper, giving it the appearance of other metals.
Anodized Finishes
- Anodized aluminum has excellent wear and abrasion resistance. It will not chip, peel or flake over time.
- Exterior anodic coatings stand up to ultraviolet rays and provide good color stability. Color variations are minimized or eliminated.
- Chemically stable and non-toxic, anodized aluminum produces no harmful or dangerous by-products.
- Copper anodized aluminum uses actual copper to color the aluminum, yet it will remain stable and will not patina.
