Overview

Kroon Hall achieves its energy savings from a host of design elements and technical strategies, including everything from siting to sustainable materials to natural ventilation. An exceptionally sophisticated HVAC system uses a combination of exhaust air, inventive circulation methods, geothermal technology, an evaporative cooling system and a ground water pump to regulate air temperature.

Project Highlights

  • Many windows are operating. A signaling system is used, with green-light indicators alerting a go-ahead to open windows at will. Amber lights indicate it would be more energy-efficient to keep windows closed.
  • Tilt-Turns on the ground floor can be locked in an open position, providing ventilation and security.
